Assignment
During the Day of Construction, various construction sites across the Netherlands open their grounds to inform people about different aspects of the building industry. Since 2022, the Binnenhof has been closed for a renovation of the complex, meaning its doors have been shut to the public. For the second consecutive year, Obsession had the opportunity to help organise the Binnenhof's opening, providing interested individuals, local residents, nearby business owners, school pupils, students, employees, and associates of the involved contractors and the Central Government Real Estate Agency a behind-the-scenes look.
Outcome
On Friday, 7th June, and Saturday, 8th June, we opened the doors of the Binnenhof. In close collaboration with the Central Government Real Estate Agency, we established a registration process allowing visitors to book a specific time slot. Upon arrival, visitors followed a predetermined route that guided them around the construction site. Along the route, employees of the involved contractors or the Central Government Real Estate Agency were stationed to provide information about the renovation. Architects were positioned at various points to explain what the location would look like post-renovation, while contractors at the information market explained their work. Visitors could also use a VR headset to look through the ceiling and see the building's structure behind it. For younger visitors, there were various activities along the route to ensure they, too, had a memorable experience at the Binnenhof. They could follow the route with a treasure hunt map to earn a free ice cream, hammer together a birdhouse in the shape of the Ridderzaal, or play in a specially constructed sandbox with small diggers. Visitors left the Binnenhof excited and were impressed by the complexity and scale of the renovation of a building of this size, something not easily visible from the outside. Over two days, we welcomed a total of 5,000 visitors who came to see the Binnenhof's renovation.
