On 19 September 2024, the Third Thursday in September (TTiS) took place. This annual event is mboRijnland’s study day, marking the opening of the new academic year. The NBC conference centre in Nieuwegein, known for its sustainable core values and excellent accessibility via public transport, was the perfect venue to align with the theme: On a sustainable journey TOGETHER. A day dedicated to connecting strategy, policy, and implementation, while also offering time for relaxation. This event strengthens the bonds between colleagues and fosters pride in mboRijnland by promoting interactions and collaborations. Colleagues and students were at the forefront during the various activities.

Result

Over 1,200 colleagues from across the region gathered to celebrate this edition of the Third Thursday in September together. The day began with a shared opening session, featuring a welcome address by two day chairs, both colleagues from mboRijnland. After this collective start, staff followed a Parallel Route Path Programme. This provided ample opportunities for inspiration, knowledge sharing, networking, active discussions, participation, listening, laughing, and enjoying the day TOGETHER with colleagues. The programme featured five distinct route paths offering a variety of schedules combining thematic sessions, masterclasses, and/or lectures. During the break, participants explored the central Inspiration Plaza, where innovative and sustainable initiatives were showcased. Students, alongside the Centres for Innovative Craftsmanship (CIVs), presented projects focused on healthcare innovations and sustainability. Highlights included the Bus to the Future, a mobile experience lab offering a glimpse into the technologies of tomorrow, and a demonstration of the potential of sustainable 3D printing. The day concluded with a keynote by Ayca Szapora, who delivered an energetic and humorous session exploring the fascinating workings of the brain and how to influence both your own behaviour and that of others.
