NRO ETHO Hackaton

Assignment

How do you design education that truly creates space for everyone?
A question without a ready-made answer – one that calls for co-creation, knowledge sharing, and the will to make a difference. That’s why the Expert Group on Accessibility in Higher Education (ETHO) brought together education professionals, academic experts, and students for a full day of collaboration focused on real solutions. Not a traditional seminar, but a hackathon – the very first one ever, dedicated to higher education.

On April 9, 2025, the BOVAGhuis in Bunnik buzzes with energy. Seventeen teams from universities and universities of applied sciences across the Netherlands and Flanders take their seats at round tables. The atmosphere is one of curiosity and determination. Each team brings its own challenge related to student access and inclusion in higher education. From “How do you offer inclusive educational advice?” to “How do you design assessment methods that work for neurodivergent students?”
What follows is a day of deep questioning, designing, and testing. Guided by academic experts and with students at the table, the first outlines of practical solutions take shape. New learning formats, clear recommendations, assessment methods that lead to fewer dropouts and more engagement.
While the sun shines outside, bridges are being built inside – between research and practice, policy and experience. But most of all: between people.
Everyone heads home with concrete insights, fresh inspiration, and a shared realization: together, we move forward.
